Our Ltd. Store launched a couple of weeks ago with a collaborative collection at the independent department store and stockist in Winchester - The Hambledon. They invited us to take over their project space, that has previously hosted Pop-Up stores from Patagonia, Moscot eyewear and Norse Projects.
Ltd. Store is a series of Universal Works Pop-Ups around the world that serve as an extension of our stores, but have something a bit more unique than just a temporary retail space hence our choice of calling it - Ltd. Store.
The Hambledon have been a stockist since our Winter ‘11 collection so to host our next Ltd. Store there was an opportunity to introduce their customers to a broader range of styles from our latest collection, along with some exclusive pieces made for the project. To make it a truly collaborative project we wanted to reflect the different retail departments of The Hambledon store itself that has a large collection of womenswear and homeware. The owner of The Hambledon – Victoria Suffield, had mentioned on numerous occasions about her wish for us to make some women’s styles, here was our opportunity to finally make this happen.
The collaborative collection began with an olive and navy circular patterned fabric, Japanese Camo, that became a men’s and women’s shirt, and also became the identity for the Ltd. Store, running through the collection printed on garments and embroidered on homeware.
The collaboration marks our first venture into womenswear. For this we chose to adapt our classic menswear styles - the Bakers Jacket, Fatigue pant, Double Pleat Pant and MW Chore Overshirt. Slight changes such as narrowing the shoulders, shortening lengths and taking in the waist on trousers translated the styles into women’s fits.
We inhabited the space at The Hambledon by using the Japanese Camo pattern design on the floors and walls and launched the Ltd. Store with a special DJ set by Hambledon menswear buyer Rob Adams. The first weekend of the Pop-up was staffed by some of the UW team.
Ltd. Store will be running until 08.10.17.
The collection is also available from The Hambledon's webstore.
