Autumn Winter '22 | The NEW WALK CULTURE Programme

**The Universal Works AW22 Collection is now available online and instore**

The NEW WALK CULTURE Programme’ kickstarts the AW22 season with a call for us all to fling open the door, grab some layers and get roaming. Rambles alone or with friends have the power to regenerate us. For us, the destination doesn’t really matter – it’s the journey that sparks our imagination.  Appreciating the process vs the final goal aligns with UW Co-Founder, David Keyte’s, mantra for design, which is summed up in one simple sentence: Keep moving, keep improving, keep learning.

Jacket - Bakers V3 Chore Jacket in Stone Recycled Columbo Tweed, Hoody - Oversized Hoody Sweatshirt in Brown Hikers Jacquard.

Taking pride in the plod means we can enjoy the journey, after all. It’s a sentiment that resonates strongly with Universal Works Co-founder and designer, David Keyte:

“In an increasingly digital world, it’s easy to forget how important touch and feel are to us as humans.  Sometimes the simple act of stepping outside, going for a run or walk can make us connect with nature and our environment, even in an urban setting.

It was with this thought that I began designing the collection for Autumn Winter ‘22. Each season I start with the search for fabrics that have the right quality and integrity, the right touch and feel. This process I see as part of the journey we are on at UW, I am not sure what the destination is, but I feel the journey itself is more important. Enjoying the moment is particularly important in such a turbulent world, but finding joy in the simple things can sustain us better than unhealthy speculation. I feel our collection for AW22 is a celebration of those emotions and thoughts but still very much part of our mission to have fun making people feel good by dressing them well and with comfort and style.

There are lots of UW favourites still in there but also some new surprising highlights too, I hope. Tradition and rebellion together in simple and long lasting shapes and fabrics to wear on those all too important moments we all have when we step outside and appreciate what’s around us.”

Shapes for the season have all the recognisable UW. hallmarks, with some urban rambling-friendly additions peppered throughout the collection. Most fabrics tick the UW signature credentials, with sturdy twills, easy-wearing fleeces, and trusty checks. But now (more than ever before), there’s a considered and serious move towards the use of recycled, organic and sustainable raw materials.

(Left) Jacket - Liner Jacket in Olive Quilt Cotton, Knitwear - Roll Neck in Orange Eco Wool, Hat - Watch Cap in Orange Eco Wool, Trousers - Loose Cargo Pant in Olive Swedish Camo Wax Cotton.
(Right) Knitwear - Loose Crew in Mix Eco Wool,  Scarf - Stripe Scarf in Mixed Eco Wool Stripe, Hat - Watch Cap in Beige Eco Wool.

These updates, along with standout paisley corduroy, inside-out-outerwear shells, dense (but flexible) recycled wools, waxed camo cotton and recycled nylons give the autumn/winter collection a welcome burst of modern energy. Sand, Cumin, Navy, Olive, Orange and Forest Green are an ode to the great outdoors, the place this seasonal journey first began.
