Autumn Winter 16
The first drop of our new collection is online and arriving in stores this week.
This season we took inspiration the Nottingham Goose Fair which is a bit of a local institution. When the travelling fair comes to town, it marks the end of summer and the coming of winter. As the weather starts to change it’s time to layer up; a sweater and a jacket in the evening and a coat hat and scarf when we visit the fair.
The Goose Fair’s arrival in town whips up a mesmerising atmosphere. In our city, the fair is a 700-year-old tradition, something that all the locals in UWHQ grew up with. Our childhood memories of the fair are a crazy eclectic mix of noise, smells, and lights that are heard and seen for miles around. Maybe the best part was the people, a mix of characters who seemed to have a carefree even bohemian life, not without a touch of glamour and yet a tough edge. This feeling and the memory of those characters, their sense of style and their sense of humour was the inspiration for a collection which is eclectic yet strong in styling; classic yet modern; with dark and sophisticated colours using fabrics from luxury wools to hard-working cotton twill.
The cut and shapes follow our signature look, but pared down and with cleaner lines compared to previous collections. Generous chore jackets and coats, fitted suit jackets with loose pants, in British, Italian and Japanese fabrics. Shirts also have a clean look, with an emphasis on fabric and cut, with interesting details still to find. Knitwear this season is refined to contrast with the street influenced sweats and jerseys with their prints and embroidery. The combination forms a relaxed and modern take on a very British look, mixing details reminiscent of military garments, with hints of blue-collar workwear, street and sportswear.
AW’16 is a collection inspired by tradition but contemporary in design and spirit.
