Universal Works X Satta
PEACE.LOVE.SOUL is a project by Universal Works and Satta about peace, love, and soul.
Offered to a select international group of stores, the project is about global connections, the people around the world who love Satta and ourselves.
Peace is simple. It represents connecting as many people as possible and making them smile through what we do. Love is for our mutual love for craftsmanship and making. And Soul. Soul represents the things that make life worth living. Soul music. Soul food. Whatever your medicine.
Satta is a skateboard and clothing brand based in Bali, Indonesia having previously been based in Brixton London. It is headed up by Joe lauder who hand shapes and builds the skateboards and designs all the clothing. His ethos is laid-back, cool and Satta is an expression of his lifestyle and values. With a background in carpentry, Joe began producing hand-made skateboards in an attempt to replicate its roots, when 1960's surfers started to make the transition onto land. Using this as a platform, the clothing line was born with the laid back, washed out and down to earth aesthetic, clothes made for living in.
We originally started talking back in SS14 about various possible projects, UW designer David K has met with Joe a few times on trips to London before his move to Bali. We like what he does and who he is and SS16 felt like the right time to put something together. The PEACE.LOVE.SOUL collaboration brings together Universal Works’ workwear style pieces and hand embroidery with Satta’s wood inspired natural colour palette and relaxed fit. A result of shared values, it’s a collection of honest clothing that has soul and is made for living in.
To make this project even more special, we offered it to a very select group of stockists who will also have their own custom overshirts.
