Oi Polloi x Universal Works.
Oi Polloi x Universal Works Now Available Online.
Universal Works and Manchester menswear legends, Oi Polloi, have teamed up to serve you a piping hot plate of gingham goodness.
Introducing four vibrant colorways across two UW. shirting styles: the timeless short sleeve "Road Shirt", perfect for cruising any "Snax In The City", and the laid-back "Treck Shirt", an excellent cafe companion featuring two chest pockets to stash your extra sachets of sauce...
UW co-founder David Keyte reflects on the collaboration:
“When we first had talks regarding this collaboration, you could say it was simply a cool idea and fun version of something in our SS23 collection, but with the recent events at Manchesters' most iconic retailer, this project has taken on a special meaning for me.
I met Steve and Nigel more than 15 years ago when I fell in love with their first store and tried hard to get a chance to show UW there. I always admired their incredible knowledge and love of garments, but more than that they had an opinion, a voice that was real and honest and well, just proper ‘MANC' which I loved. I guess from when I first met them I felt they were kindred spirits...
This project came about from meeting them in our London showroom where we present our collections to retailers 6 months before the season. The OP guys loved the gingham we were showing and our summer shirt styles but wanted to add some exclusive OP products to their normal slightly hazy colour spectrum. I was happy to oblige, we thought about the 8 colours of the Oi Polloi logo but settled on 4 of those hits of colour!
Sadly, the amazing coloured shirt collaboration never made it to the Manchester store, as its delivery was scheduled just a few weeks after the store's closure this spring.
Steve had suggested a fun way to photoshoot the colab and we have tried to honour that idea. Despite the current setback, hopefully this will not be the last collaboration between Oi Polloi and UW, and they will rise from the ashes like a multi-colored Phoenix… (ummm or should that be a multi-color Magpie?)"
Limited numbers are now available online and in Universal Works stores.
