Whilst on our travels we are always up for the opportunity to experience new things.

In Japan we were able to take in the sites, smells and sounds of the Tori no Ichi festival which is traditionally celebrated on each day of the rooster in November at Otari-jinja shrines all over Tokyo.

The festival is an opportunity for business owners to pray for a successful year by purchasing a hand decorated Kumade rake and having it blessed, so that's just what we did.

The difficult part is which of the many Kumade to choose from and how you’re going to get it home in one piece.

As well as the Kumade rakes, the festival has many street food vendors selling snacks and drinks.

Like so many things in Japan, if you ever get the opportunity we recommend it.

It’s things like this that reminds us how lucky we are to be doing what we do.
