Product Highlight: Scottish Wax Parka

Our 'Scottish Wax Parka' serves the original parka purposes of giving protection from the elements. We have continued our trend in producing our Parka from a fabric sourced from Scottish giants of the foul weather fabric world, Halley Stevensons who have been producing their world-renowned waxed cotton and sailcloth in fine city of Dundee since 1864.

The concept of waxed cotton was originally developed in the early 15th century by sailors; north Scottish sailors would wax the sails of their ships typically with an assortment of fishy oils and grease - in an attempt to protect the sails from the harsh waves. Remnants of these sails were used as capes to withstand the high winds and sea spray, keeping the sailors warm and dry. These capes were the forerunner to the fisherman’s slicker.

Fast forward to the present day and Halley Stevensons still use the same rudimentary fabric constructions to this day and the wax treatments have been developed to give longer-lasting, waterproofing finishes that are made in their Dundee factory and sent worldwide.

"What I like about Halley Stevensons is that it's a company steeped in history but not trapped in the past, they make a traditional fabric with a modern mindset, they develop new and innovative ways to produce age old fabrics with both historic and present day techniques and technologies- oh and did I say they are lovely people to work with too!

As for our Parka, we offer their Aero Wax fished mid-weight cotton, it's a similar mix of the old and new really- let's be honest the USA military made some of the best parka shapes ever and ours is nicked from them, steel from the east is a good place to start, so an old Army parka I had, given our own adaption with a few tweaks to give a more modern fit and urban feel." - David Keyte

Our Parka features traditional high hand warmer pockets and our signature asymmetric sleeve pocket. The long hem can be snapped away and the deep hood, concealed snaps, and button adjustable cuffs make for a stealthy, minimalist shell coat fit from autumn to spring.
