“On the Map” is our take on a city guide of sorts; it’s a way of us sharing stories from our international community kingpins by spotlighting the people living, working and doing good things in the vicinity of our stores and stockists. As we like to say; it’s all about Good People and Good Places.

If you’re the type of person who breaks into a sweat when the waiter hands you the wine list, then Valla Vino is the joint for you. Based in Prenzlauer Berg Berlin, this is somewhere you’ll never feel judged for not knowing the difference between a Muscadet or a Riesling. Wine isn’t supposed to be a culture competition - it’s for drinking (responsibly, of course…hic). Public Health Broadcast aside, the laid-back wine vibe at Valla Vino has proved extremely popular since they first flung open their doors in June 2021.

For the final chapter of our On the Map Berlin series, we spoke to co-founder Lissi and shot the breeze on how Valla Vino is shaking up Berlin’s booze scene for the better. With an academic background in waste management and sustainable solutions, Lissi understands a thing or two about the importance of resourcefulness. With co-founder Marco, the pair work hard to source the best possible natural wines. Asked why, Lissi said, “We both believe in products that are made with care and a love for nature. We are passionate about selling goods that we can stand proudly behind, and natural wines are a beautiful and tasty alternative to conventional wines. It’s a fascinating field that we both enjoy discovering more about every day.”

A cosy, modern space, the pair have made sure Valla Vino doesn’t feel like you need to be a sommelier to enjoy yourself there. “Hospitality is important – we’ve made sure the atmosphere is super friendly and welcoming. The wine industry can be very stiff and rigid to anyone who doesn’t feel ‘part’ of it. We’ve made sure our place is relaxed and the wines and food dishes we serve are all chosen with great care. I also love when my friends and favourite customers end up chatting over a drink and then become friends - this happens a lot!”

Sounds like it’s time to grab a corkscrew and sample the grape juice!
