Nottingham is Universal Works’ hometown, so when the Broad Street Store first opened 6 years ago, it was a very special moment for us. We have always enjoyed being in the heart of Hockley, a vibrant and alternative neighbourhood in the city centre, and the sense of community that brought with it. That all said, as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end, but that doesn't mean there aren't other exciting things on the horizon for UW in Nottingham
You may have heard already the news that we are relocating and opening a new store in our hometown, this means we can now offer our customers a larger space, show more of our collection, and also have a little more wiggle room on the changing room front.
This Sunday, the 15th January, will be the last day of trading for our Broad Street Store. In recognition of our incredible residency at Rough Trade our Nottingham store manager, Frankie, writes a personal tribute wishing an old friend a fond farewell.

“How quickly the years have passed but how treasured the memories are.
As we say goodbye to our first hometown store we find ourselves reflecting on the fact that we couldn't have asked for a better place to begin this journey. The murmur of music from downstairs, the new bands falling through the door, each soundcheck we secretly enjoyed over-hearing, the interesting characters who’ve unexpectedly found themselves in our little shop.
It’s fair to say Rough Trade has proven to be more than just a record store for us. It’s been an opportunity for us to be part of a real community in our hometown and grow our UW family. We have never felt like we are ‘just a shop' and that's really down to all of our loyal customers from over the years, many of whom have stopped in for a chat and left with a new pair of trousers. Long may that continue, wherever we find ourselves.
As we turn the page on this important chapter, we are nostalgic for what has been but equally excited for what's to come.
But fear not, we are not saying farewell to Nottingham, our move to 120-122 Derby Road is imminent. A different location to Hockley but a place with it’s own expanding community, a community that we are proud to be joining.”
